SPLAT
In Between Spaces and Time
Marina is interested in the relationship between the performer and the camera and the notion of dance in the broader and conceptual sense.
“I see dance all around me: when I look outside the window and the passers-by are making patterns through the space. I see a painting and a moving picture.
I look at the repetitive gestures of different people, their body impulsions, latent imprints and I start reading their psychological significance and make a dance in my mind.
I am interested in the smallest insignificant and overlooked movement, amplify it and compose it into visual moving segments of dance.”
Devising through gestures, humor and rhythm, Splat was choreographed upon music created with Michael Meldru. The process entailed a dialogue of a gesture interpreted as a single musical sound, which was then combined with other interpretations of movement. The result culminated in a rhythmic background that allowed space for a melodic thread. The discord of the melody then captured the dynamic of the gesture, reflecting a tonal displacement which is the thread of the installation.
