Nicola Plant
MA Digital Arts in Performance
Before commencing her MA in Digital Arts in Performance, Nicola studied Music Technology at the Birmingham Conservatoire. Although a specialist in sound, Nicola works mainly with Audio-Visual Installation and Performance. Her work principally investigates the phenomenon and resonances of digital technologies of modern day art, society and culture. Nicola has previously used video motion-capture and sensor technology in order to engage with physical space in performance, as well as using a motion-sensing body suit to apply movement to the manipulation of sound elements in her film work.
‘The Architect’
Nicola’s current work explores the social consequences of media technology in the form of an Audio-Visual Interactive Installation. The Installation will show multiple screens displaying scenes dealing with the issues of social conditioning, surveillance and the incessant will of computers. The interactive sensor technology induces a suspicious presence as projections track the movement of the spectator evoking the sense of being watched and controlled.
